Philippe Balland 

Chief Risk Officer

Philippe Balland is Chief Risk Officer at Gemcorp Capital, Head of Quantitative Research and a member of the Investment Committee. He is responsible for the firm’s risk management framework and the development of its analytical and research capabilities, ensuring that investment decisions are supported by rigorous quantitative insight alongside fundamental analysis. 

Philippe brings a deep quantitative background and extensive experience from global investment banking. Over the course of his career at Merrill Lynch and UBS, he served as a Managing Director with global responsibility for quantitative teams spanning foreign exchange, rates, inflation, commodities, credit and hybrid products. His work combined advanced modelling with practical risk oversight across complex, multi-asset portfolios.

Phillipe graduated from École Centrale Paris and holds a Master of Science in Mathematical Modelling as well as a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Oxford.
