Atanas Bostandjiev

Founder and CEO

Atanas Bostandjiev is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Gemcorp Capital, where he is responsible for the overall management of the firm and serves as a member of the Investment Committee.

Atanas founded Gemcorp in 2014 to create a global investment firm with specialist expertise in emerging markets, built around disciplined investing, local insight and long-term partnerships.

His conviction in emerging is deeply personal. Born and raised in Bulgaria, Atanas came of age during the final years of communism and was among the first of his generation to study abroad following the fall of the Berlin Wall, an experience that shaped both his global outlook, enduring commitment to emerging economies and desire to support local entrepreneurs.

Prior to founding Gemcorp, Atanas was CEO of VTB Capital UK, where he played a central role in building an international capital markets platform, opening offices across Europe, the US, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Earlier in his career, he was a Partner at Goldman Sachs in London, co-leading the Emerging Markets business across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He began his career at Merrill Lynch in Frankfurt in 1998.

Alongside his professional work, Atanas is the founder of the Bulgarian charity Chance for the Children of Bulgaria, which supports talented young people across the country in realising their full potential, reflecting his long-standing belief in the transformative power of opportunity, education and investment.
