Asad Hajiyev  

Senior Executive Officer, Portfolio Manager

Asad Hajiyev is a Senior Executive Officer and Portfolio Manager at Gemcorp Capital. He is responsible for investing in structured capital across the Gulf Cooperation Council bloc and broader emerging markets, with a focus on energy and energy transition, technology, infrastructure and special situations.

Asad brings together global investment banking experience with deep regional expertise across the Middle East and other emerging markets. Since joining Gemcorp in 2018, he has played a key role in expanding the firm’s investment platform. After six years in the firm’s London office, he relocated to Abu Dhabi in 2024 to lead Gemcorp’s presence in the region, strengthening on-the-ground coverage and local partnerships.

Prior to Gemcorp, Asad spent eight years at J.P. Morgan, where he worked across equity capital markets, M&A, leveraged finance execution, and distressed credit, advising on complex transactions in both developed and emerging markets. Earlier in his career, he worked in corporate finance at BP in Azerbaijan, leading the Treasury Team Leader in the company’s upstream business in his last role. This blend of corporate, banking and investment experience continues to inform his approach to structuring and risk.

Asad is driven by the opportunity to deploy long-term, enabling capital in markets undergoing structural transformation. His investment approach focuses on identifying opportunities where flexible capital, rigorous structuring, and local market understanding can generate strong financial outcomes while supporting sustainable growth.

Asad holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, an MA in International Relations from the University of Warwick and a BA in International Economics from Schiller International University. He is also Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualified in the UK.
