Gaj Wallooppillai
Country Manager, Middle East
Gaj Wallooppillai OBE is Global Head of Strategy and Head of Middle East at Gemcorp Capital, where he shapes the firm’s long term strategic direction, drives regional expansion and builds enduring institutional partnerships across the Gulf and other high growth markets.
He joined Gemcorp after more than a decade at the centre of British public life, operating at senior levels across Westminster and Brussels. He served as Chief of Staff to successive Chairmen of the Conservative Party and worked closely with successive Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers, advising on strategy, governance and international engagement during periods of significant political and geopolitical change.
As International Secretary, he represented the Party globally, working directly with Presidents, Prime Ministers and senior political leaders across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and the Americas to strengthen cross border relationships and institutional ties.
At Gemcorp, Gaj translates strategic vision into execution, strengthening the firm’s global platform and deepening relationships with sovereigns, regulators, and long-term capital partners. His background at the intersection of politics, policy and international affairs underpins his ability to build trusted partnerships across jurisdictions, particularly in the Middle East.
In recognition of his contribution to public service and community leadership, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen’s New Year Honours List in 2021.
Gaj holds an MSc in Contemporary India from the University of Oxford and a BA in Political Science and Government from Loughborough University.
