Antonio Poncioni Merian

Antonio Poncioni Mérian is an Adviser to the Board of Gemcorp Capital, bringing more than two decades of experience working with governments and institutions across emerging markets.
A native of Brazil, Antonio has built a career at the intersection of public policy, international affairs and emerging market development. Over the past twenty years, he has advised governments in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Latin America in a range of strategic and institutional capacities, developing a deep understanding of the political, economic and social dynamics that shape emerging economies.
Antonio began his academic career in France, studying Latin American history at the Sorbonne, and has since pursued an extensive international education. He was educated at the École Normale Supérieure and the Universities of UC Berkeley and Sorbonne Nouvelle, earned the prestigious Agrégation, and holds both a Master in Public Affairs & International Relations from Sciences Po Paris and a PhD in Latin American and Spanish Studies.
Alongside his advisory work, Antonio is active in a number of international cultural and policy institutions. He is a Trustee of the World Law Foundation, an Advisory Board member of Politique Internationale, the Instituto Pedro Pires para a Liderança in Cabo Verde and the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo in the Dominican Republic. He also serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the Foundation Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings in Germany. In addition, Antonio is a Lieutenant Commander (Reserve) in the French Navy.
